Advancing Black Homeownership: NAREB’s 2025 Summit Comes to Dillard University

Real Conversations About Real Change

Homeownership has long been a pathway to stability, legacy, and generational wealth. But for many Black families, that path has been blocked by decades of inequality, unfair policies, and lack of access. That’s why the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB) is bringing its Black Homeownership Summit 2025 to Dillard University in New Orleans on November 13–14, 2025 — and you're invited to be part of the conversation.

This is more than a conference. It’s a gathering of people who care deeply about our future — real estate professionals, community leaders, homeowners, and advocates — all coming together to talk solutions and take action.

What You’ll Learn at the 2025 Black Homeownership Summit

One of the highlights of this year’s summit is the release of the 2025 State of Housing in Black America (SHIBA) Report — a powerful, data-backed look at where we stand and what needs to change.

According to the 2024 SHIBA Report, the Black homeownership rate was just 45.7% in 2023, compared to 74.3% for white households. That gap — nearly 30 points — hasn’t improved much in decades. In fact, Black homeownership peaked at 49% back in 2004, and we’ve been trying to climb back ever since.

This summit will break down why that’s happening, what’s working in our communities, and what support systems we need in place to move forward.

Why This Summit Matters to Us

  • Home is more than property — it’s legacy. Owning a home can open doors to long-term stability, better schools, community investment, and generational wealth. But too many of our families are still being left out of that opportunity.

  • The numbers speak for themselves. We can’t ignore a nearly 30-point homeownership gap. It’s not just about credit scores or personal finance — it’s about access, fairness, and systems that need to change.

  • Change doesn’t happen without community. This summit is a space for real talk and real solutions — with people who look like us and understand our experiences. Whether you’re a homeowner, renter, real estate agent, policymaker, or just someone who cares, your voice matters here.

  • Wealth starts at home — and so does education. Hosting this summit at Dillard University, one of the South’s most respected HBCUs, strengthens the message. Dillard has been empowering Black students and leaders for generations. Now, it's the backdrop for a crucial conversation about our future as homeowners, community builders, and legacy creators.
